Developmental Summary: ½ – ¾ page Summarize what you have learned about this child. Review all the information that you have gathered. This section should address all aspects of development. Therefore, have at least one separate paragraph for each developmental domain. Identify what the child can do, is learning to do, likes, is challenged by, how the child seems to learn best, and needs and considerations for him/her. Be sure to give very specific examples.
Social & Emotional Development: 1 – 1 ½ pages Discuss this child’s social and emotional development in greater detail. How is this child’s social and emotional development affecting other developmental domains? How is it impacted by other developmental domains? What key factors are impacting the child’s social and emotional development? Select one specific theory/theorist and discuss how it helped you to understand this child’s social and emotional development. Be sure this section addresses all key aspects of social and emotional development.
Conclusions: ½ – 1 page Draw some conclusions about this child. What are this child’s strengths? Do you have any questions about the child’s development or see any areas of potential concern? Is this child’s development aligned with expected patterns and developmental possibilities? Why or why not? Describe the progress the child has made and changes you’ve seen over the semester. Make two specific, short-term predictions—one about this child’s overall development and one about their social and emotional development.
Applications & Recommendations: ½ – ¾ page Discuss how your observations could be utilized. Consider the following: monitor and document the child’s progress, set goals, individualize instruction, modify the environment, and partner with the child’s family. List three recommendations to support the development of this child. What can the family and/or caregivers do to promote this child’s growth and development? One recommendation should be related to overall growth and development; the oth er two should focus on social and emotional development.
Self-Reflection: ¼ – ½ page Finally, summarize what you have learned about observing, documenting, and assessing. Be sure to connect this section to the following course competencies: #1. Identify and define the sequences of development in young children, birth to age 3 years, in all major domains, including social and emotional development.
#2. Examine how multiple, interacting influences affect infant and toddler development, including family dynamics and adult expectations, brain development, and temperament.
