Submit a paper that identifies who you will interview, their position in the organization or role in the issue topic, and how the interview(s) will be conducted (in-person, telephone, email).

Assignment Question

Interview candidate. Her name is Monique Molina and she is an Assistant Principal at Centennial high school.

STEP 1: Identification of Interviewee (5 points). In this portion of the assignment you will submit a paper that identifies who you will interview, their position in the organization or role in the issue topic, and how the interview(s) will be conducted (in-person, telephone, email).

[Note that you will need to get permission for an interview, so do not merely select a name from a directory; you will need to contact the person to be interviewed and confirm that they are willing/able to provide an interview.]

The person selected should be in a decision making role — that is, do not select someone in a clerical, or lower-level, position. In the paper you submit you also should briefly explain how/why the person selected for the interview likely will be able to provide information on an overview of the organization/policy issue, ethics, budgeting, leadership, and future directions of the organization/policy issue. This might be based on, for example, how long the person has been with the organization (or working on the policy issue), their position/rank, which areas they directly/indirectly oversee in the organization (or policy issue). Your paper also should provide a tentative date for the interview (although that obviously could change based on the interviewee’s schedule/needs). Do NOT schedule an interview date before receiving feedback on your interview questionnaire.

STEP 2: Interview Questionnaire (15 points). Your questionnaire must include questions related to the five topics listed in the Capstone Project Instructions file (Overview/Context, Ethics, Leadership, Budget/Finance, Future Directions) and must be related to the research you have conducted so far (the worst thing you can do is to interview a decision maker and ask them irrelevant questions, so be sure to prepare your questionnaire appropriately). Be sure you have some questions related to the two (or more) specific concepts in the Ethics, Leadership, and Budgeting/Finance sections of your questionnaire (for more details, refer to the Capstone Project Instructions). You should use your Outline (the Module 2 assignment) as a template for your questionnaire; that is, your questionnaire should seek to get ‘answers’ to the points listed in your Outline, plus any other aspects you may have come up with since you designed the Outline. Although the number of questions will vary based on the topic of your project, you should include a reasonable number of questions to address the five topics (Overview/Context, Ethics, Leadership, Budget/Finance, Future Directions). The questions should be arranged logically, ideally with questions grouped together based on topic — for instance, you do not want to ask a budget/finance question initially and then have other budget/finance questions interspersed in other parts of the questionnaire. Keep in mind that the time an administrator has is valuable and so your questions should be focused and concise. The questionnaire should include contingency and possible follow-up questions. See the sample questionnaire provided on the Capstone Assignment Examples page (accessible through the course “Home” page). However, do not simply copy (or merely adapt) the questions in the sample questionnaire; since each capstone project topic is unique, be sure that your questionnaire is based on your project topic.
