Descriiption Imagine that your supervisor has asked you to prepare a 60-minute workshop for the leaders in your organization entitled, “How to Be an Emotionally Intelligent Relational Leader.” Your supervisor has a clear two-fold goal for this workshop: (1) to equip the leaders in the organization to lead relationally with emotional intelligence; and (2) for these leaders to build into their followers to bring out their best and enable them to maximize their potential in the organization and beyond. In this 3-step assignment, you will have the opportunity to create a 60-minute interactive workshop around the topic(s) of your choice from the pool of 40 short Harvard Business Review essays in the course Google Folder assigned to your group (incidentally, each group has 40 different essays they’ll be choosing from and students will have access to a total of 120 HBR EQ essays at the end of the course for further personal/professional development). You should read all of the brief articles assigned in your folder to develop the topic(s) of your choice and to build the framework for your workshop. If it would be helpful for you to actually create a workshop for your current organization that you can actually present at a later date, please feel free to tailor it to your audience – but be sure to indicate that at the beginning of your presentation. Even if you do tailor your workshop, all of you will be presenting it to your classmates as the audience, and your desired outcome is to create a workshop that is useful to them as they develop themselves as emotionally intelligent relational leaders and as they develop their followers. STEP 1: Workshop Development and Presentation Your 60-minute workshop should utilize Google Slides to: (a) present the best-of-the best topical information from the article(s) you choose on emotionally intelligent relational leadership (there is no minimum/maximum limit to the number of topics you can include in your essay, but they must fit with your learning activities and within the 60-minute timeframe of your workshop); (b) develop interactive questions for discussion from the topic(s) of your workshop, particularly as the topic(s) relates to the EQ social competence elements (Social Awareness and Relationship Management) of emotional intelligence; and (c) include interactive activity/activities for your classmates to further develop their knowledge of the topic(s) of your workshop, including supplemental resources/materials such as handouts. Remember, you have 60 minutes to utilize for your workshop. This means you can break it up between presentation and activities to keep it engaging. At minimum, you should be presenting for about 30-minutes total and have 30-minutes of activities. For example, you might present for 10 minutes, have participants engage in a brief 15-minute activity, then present for another 10 minutes, and have participants engage in another brief activity, etc. You get the picture! This assignment is meant to be a hands-on workshop for participants, not just a “sit and listen” presentation. Creativity will be important to keep the interest of your audience. Have fun with this! In terms of the video recording, you can insert a slide that indicates viewers are supposed to pause the video and complete the activity. You will upload a narrated Google Slide video presentation of your workshop, your Discussion questions, and interactive learning activities both to the assignment and appropriate discussion in the online course by Sunday midnight of your assigned week (Group 1 posts in the Week 3 Discussion, Group 2 posts in the Week 5 Discussion, and Group 3 posts in the Week 7 Discussion). Please also upload any supplemental resources, materials, handouts, etc., that you have created for the interactive activity for your participants. STEP 2: Workshop Facilitation You are then responsible to lead and facilitate the discussion and interactive activities around your workshop for your assigned week based on the Facilitation/Discussion Criteria outlined below. STEP 3: Workshop Self-Evaluation and Reflection Once you have completed the facilitation of your workshop, and lead the discussion and activities around it for the week, you will then evaluate your workshop and facilitation based on feedback from your classmates AND your own reflections utilizing the following questions. Workshop Participation and Peer Feedback You are responsible to interact with ALL of your classmates’ workshops, questions, and engage with the learning activities they’ve created for their workshop during the assigned week. Facilitation/Discussion Criteria: We will follow the same Wednesday/Friday/Sunday guidelines for our online Discussions. Meaning classmates who are not presenting will engage with the questions and activities of ALL the workshops by Wednesday midnight, classmates who are presenting will have until Friday midnight to engage with their classmates, then back-and-forth interaction will happen until Sunday midnight.
