Using the topic that you chose in the Topic Proposal Paper, write a 7-10 page paper that works towards proving your thesis statement. In your thesis statement, you provided 3 reasons that supported your assertion. You will dedicate about 3-4 body paragraphs to prove each of the 3 reasons, which adds up to a total of 9-12 body paragraphs, in addition to your introductory paragraph and conclusion. For this assignment, you will need to use MLA style in-text citation.
When do you need to include a citation?
Include an in-text citation whenever you quote, paraphrase or summarize any material from the text. To be clear, I am saying to include citation even when you put information from your sources into your own words (summarizing or paraphrasing). This is important because if you don’t give credit to the author where the information came from, that is considered plagiarism.
How to create in-text citation?
At the end of each sentence where you used information from a book or journal article, include the author’s last name and the page where you found the information in parentheses (Johnson 24). Notice how I put the citation before the period at the end of the sentence.

Structure of the paper
Below is a brief list of bullet points that detail what I am looking for in terms of the format of the paper. For a more detailed descriiption, please watch the video on Canvas titled, “How to Format Your Paper.”
Introduction
Historical background (2-3 sentences)
Briefly state your main claims (in full sentences)
Include your research question (in the form of a question)
Include your thesis (thesis needs to be in the format we have discussed: assertion + 3 supporting reasons why the assertion is true)
Body paragraphs
Topic sentence (make sure to state one specific claim in the first sentence of each body paragraph)
Evidence (provide at least 2 pieces of evidence from your research to support the claim you made in the topic sentence)
Analysis (show the reader how you evidence proves your claim)
Historical background (you may need to include a little historical background at some point in the paragraph so the claim makes sense to your reader)
Concluding sentence (reaffirm the claim you made in the topic sentence and transition to the next body paragraph)
Conclusion
Reaffirm the 3 main claims that you made in your paper by summarizing the how you have proven that these claims are true
Tell the reader why your thesis is significant by explaining how it gives the reader a better understanding of the topic
