Choose a research topic: What juvenile justice issue would you be interested in studying? Your research issue should exist within the larger context of the American juvenile justice system. Theory Section: 1. This theory section should be relevant to your juvenile issue topic. a. For example, when examining restorative justice in the justice system and recidivism rates: Preventing recidivism, the goal of most programs/practices for youth in conflict with the law is informed by criminological theory and state and federal policy and procedures. Should there be a separate justice system for juveniles, should all juveniles be dealt with in the adult system, or should the juveniles be supported at the community level? Part II – Comparison Juvenile Justice Issue in another Country Comparison section: Research the same or similar issue in another country of your choice. Compare and contrast the United States with your chosen country regarding attitudes toward juvenile offenders, current policies/programs to deal with juveniles in conflict with the law, and how both countries deal with the issue you have defined. Discussion section: 1. Design a model for delinquency programming based on your identified juvenile justice issue. What would it look like? Identify its features and describe the philosophical basis for your delinquency prevention programs model. 2. What changes could be made to the current juvenile justice system to make it more effective? Conclusion Section: What does the future hold? In your opinion, do you think more incarceration of juveniles is the answer? Should we build more jails/prisons/detention centers?
