Discuss the process used at your organization or from your academic experience in the selection of project managers, team members, and key project stakeholders.

First-time project managers are often eager to implement their own objectives and manage activities based on their expertise. Such individuals often find out that project success depends on the cooperation of others. Discuss the process used at your organization or from your academic experience in the selection of project managers, team members, and key project stakeholders.

In responding the two peers, compare and contrast selection processes and critique how the existing process identified by your peers may be improved.

Hey y’all!

My name’s Ashley, and I’m getting my M.S. in Data Analytics. I’m a Georgia native living in Kentucky. I was an archaeologist for a few years, but decided to pivot into tech because Covid screwed up the job market. I have experience in Defensive Engineering through DoD contracts too because I was able to do environmental science with my background in archaeology. I’m a mother, small business owner (I make perfumes, soaps, etc inspired by books). I have a son, a Corgi, and a Pomeranian who keep me super busy. I’m also a writer under a secret pen name who spins dystopian and fantastical yarns. Looking forward to meeting and getting to know y’all!

I was actually going into organization based PM training at my previous job doing contracts for the DoD as a NEPA specialist/environmental scientist. However, I was laid off before I could start my project management training due to budget issues that I won’t go into here. While at my job, I had three project managers that I reported to. Before I left, there was only one.

Cooperation, teamwork, and communication are all vital to managing projects. Because we had different project managers, their way of doing things vastly differed. However, there were always key components that each did in order to ensure functionality. One, while they bid on projects, did project scopes, etc, those of us under them would take action with other projects based on our strengths. For instance, I would take over cultural resources (again, I was in NEPA), socioeconomics, water, waste management, and other areas required of me. I would also make tables, make a list of stakeholders, write the stakeholder letters, send them out, and meet with anyone necessary while the managers were busy with other projects. One time, I got to do noise and did some data modeling for fighter aircraft. We would hold meetings once a week, make sure everyone was on task, go over the budget (salaries came from project bidding in contract work), and submit drafts before they were due because the military usually always has a billion comments, especially the Air Force. This gave us more time to address comments. Although, sometimes comments from the Forest Service were pretty common but only to passively aggressively call out the Air Force, in which case we would have to tell them to take that elsewhere. Every process isn’t going to be the same depending on the project because no two projects are going to look the same. Having strong writers and those with diverse backgrounds and experiences is crucial to having a good team when it comes to project management. Also, a good manager will listen to their team because being a project manager isn’t about just managing projects, but being an effective leader. I’ve learned a lot about what to do and what not to do based on my old job. If it seems like I’m rambling here, I’m sorry. I don’t want to miss anything, though I’m sure I am.

Hello Everyone!

My name is Bryce I am working on my MBA with a concentration in Project Management. I am an Engineer in the Military and utilize project management frequently. I wanted to take this course to improve on my skills and add more tools to my belt.

Our process is fairly simple when it comes to the selection of those three areas. Our project stakeholders are whoever is needing the project completed, they are selected for us by the Military a majority of the time. Our project managers are the officers and senior leadership, who is also selected by the Military a majority of the time. Finally, our team members are every other Soldier in the unit that was selected. With all that being said, we do have outliers within that basic concept. We will have soldiers who sometimes have more experience in certain proposed projects, and they will take the lead in managing the project alongside an officer or senior leader. We will also have some units volunteer to take on certain projects for stakeholders who have requested assistance.

Our system is straightforward, and in our line of work, the only cooperation of others needed is the stakeholders. We have to ensure their project is completed to their specifications.
