Make a poster about ” food choice ” in Nursery group that takes infants aged 3 to 4 years old. Poster Assessment Guide Background The poster will centre on your ability to synthesise learning from the taught material and any further reading you have engaged with during the module. As either a dietitian or nutritionist you are expected to be an evidence-based practitioner. That is, you must inform your practice using the evidence base. One aspect of this is an understanding of how social structures and society can influence an individual’s food choice. Therefore, you will be expected to design a poster which provides information on how food choice may be influenced by these factors within certain population groups, drawing from the evidence base to support your ideas. Aim The aim of the coursework is for students to design an A4 size poster describing the sociological influences on food choice within a population using analysis, evaluation, and synthesis of the current evidence base. The poster will be used as part of the training induction to the role for Social Prescribers. Case studies will be provided that will describe further the brief required. Students will have an opportunity to choose their preferred case study on Weblearn. More information about this will be provided in the Teaching Week 7 tutorial introducing the coursework. Learning Outcome Recognise the sociological aspects of health, social organisation, socialisation and social status that determine lifestyle choices and access to healthcare. Effective posters An effective poster can provide key messages to intended audiences. To do this, it is important to know your audience, be confident of the purpose of the message and know how to deliver the messages with impact. A poster will allow you to present and communicate your research in a different way to oral presentations and written coursework. How can you ensure your poster is effective? Follow these key aspects when producing your poster:  The poster should look appealing with an attractive visual impact.  The title should standout and entice people to want to know more.  Are your messages clear and accessible to the audience they are intended for?  Support words with clear images, diagrams and figures.  There should be a logical direction.  Can you add any interactive elements? This guide will cover planning and designing your poster. Please also refer to the marking and assessment criteria that will be applied. Planning your poster There are lots of things to think about, these include: 1. What is the purpose for your poster? 2. Who is your audience? 3. What are the key messages? 4. What is the poster design and layout? You are designing a poster for newly employed Social Prescribers. To provide information on the sociological influences on food choice for a certain population group (one of the case studies below) and should include the relevant aspects covered in the teaching:  Cultural aspects: students are expected to cover areas such as socialisation, acculturation, family and friend influences, population, and group influences.  Religious aspects: religious practices and how this may affect food choice.  Other effects such as education level, socioeconomic status, body image.  Environmental influences such as media messages, food availability, cost, and access.  Referencing, ideas should be supported and a separate sheet with your references will be submitted. Some thought given to the design, structure and content will ensure effective posters are developed:  Title – this should be catchy, as you will only have a few seconds to draw attention. Make the title interesting, in which you deliver a complete and immediately understandable message. Try to include a suggestion of the potential benefit of reading the poster.  Be concise and focused with the text included. Messages should be clear and accessible. A poster is not an essay. Think about what you need to explain and what might be unnecessary. Avoid using jargon.
