Strategies in Managing and Organizing Qualitative Research Data

Strategies in Managing and Organizing Qualitative Research Data Managing and organizing data collated from qualitative studies is often believed to me mind-boggling and the available data thereof can even surpass the outlined objectives of the study hence, the need for reliable and effective strategies in addressing this herculean task as a researcher. One of the strategies is analytic direction which can help researcher in determining the specific contents to highlight. The concept of analytic direction relies upon, promote the conduct of rigorous qualitative study, and allows the researchers to organize their qualitative datasets to tell different and unique “stories” or information from the study. Analytic direction refers to a message developed by the researchers about the data that may or may not require further substantiation. It can be presented in a single message or theme and can stand alone or be supported by multiple sub-messages or sub-themes (Sale, 2022, pp 1-2). Another method of organizing and managing qualitative data is network analysis which involves graphical depiction of the data. This approach promotes transparency and rigor of qualitative methodologies broadly and give researchers opportunity for increased variation in data collection and analysis method resulting in greater validity through triangulation of findings. Depicting codes applied to a text as a network enables the representation and communication of the complex interconnectedness between codes, beyond code occurrence matrices. The creation of network graphs also enables researcher to visualize their qualitative data in a novel way that provides insights and stimulates further analysis (Pokorny, Norman, Zanesco, Bauer-Wu, Sahdra, & Saron, 2018, pp. 171-172).
