What suggestions might you offer the author to address those concerns?

The peer review discusses the author’s concerns about their paper. What suggestions might you offer the author to address those concerns? The peer review asks questions about the paper (“Can you clarify what you mean in the third paragraph when you say the character is ignorant? What evidence from the text suggests the character is ignorant?”)The peer review uses specifics rather than generalities in order to help the writer improve his/her work. Simply telling someone that his/her paper is great without any suggestions for improvement does not help that person at all. “That last paragraph is great” is not helpful, but “The last paragraph raises an intriguing point about your interpretation of the story when you note that Poe may be using a pun. Can you explain why Poe might have played with language in that way?” is helpful and specific. The peer review objectively evaluates the essay; personal quirks and tastes are ignored (don’t write things like “I just don’t like that story, so I couldn’t get into your essay…”) in favor of objective, rational points (do write things like “The essay’s thesis is clearly presented in the first paragraph…”)Various aspects of the essay are discussed (language use, content, structure, etc.); do NOT just focus on one thing like spelling or punctuation or phrasing habits. In fact, do not try to correct grammar unless you are positive you are correct. Instead, you might suggest they take another look at certain sentences. The peer review reflects careful and thorough proofreading. At the discretion of the instructor, points will be taken off any response that does not fulfill all of these goals. Late points will be deducted according to the standard late submission policy. One final note: you may get feedback that you don’t agree with. If you decide to completely ignore your peer reviewer’s comments, that’s perfectly fine; in fact, it may be wise to do so, in the case of peer reviewers who simply aren’t reading your work well. Do make sure, however, to consider your critiques carefully, with the idea that in most cases, peer reviewers will give you at least some helpful tips.
