To incorporate instant activities is a management and teaching strategy that gives your students a tasks to begin immediately upon walking into the gym or your PE classroom.
WHAT ARE INSTANT ACTIVITIES IN PEH?
For example
*Move and freeze– students more using teacher instructed locomotor movements
*Walking Trail– Students are instructed enter the gym and walk on the perimeter.
* High five– the gesture is often preceded verbally y a phrase Ike “Give me five” ,”High five”,”Up high” or “Slap hands” by student. Its meaning varies with the context f use but can include s a greeting, congratulations and or celebration.
*Arm swing– Students exercise warms up and stretches he shoulder, arms, chest, and upper back prepares the muscles tendons d joints for workout.
WHAT ARE THE PURPOSE OF THE INSTANT ACTIVITY IN PEH?
Physical Educators knows and understand the head to get students active and engaged as soon as they enter the PEH classroom .Instant activities sense to help teachers get students moving quickly while also providing meaningful learning task designed to work toward grade level outcomes.
INTERSPERSE ACTIVITY –ORIENTED TASK BETWEEN SKILL DEVELOPMENT TASK.
* Task may be skill oriented or knowledge oriented. Think of skills as knowing how to perform a task and knowledge as knowing what is required to perform a task.
* Intersperse activity conducting review and summary activities throughout the lecture rather than waiting until the end is the basic idea behind the intersperse task approach to interactive lectures.
WHAT ARE EXAMPLES OF INTERSPERSE ACTIVITY?
Students who have learned four on the eight steps entailed in tying their shoes have successfully mastered those four steps although they have not yet achieved the end good.

PROMOTING MUSCULAR STRENGTH AND ENDURANCE
WHAT IS MUSCCULAR STRENGTH AND ENDURANCE?
Muscular strength is the amount of force you can put out or the amount of weight you can lift.
Muscular strength refers to the amount of force a muscle can produce and is usually measured by the maximum amount of force a muscle can produce in a single effort (maximal effort). The amount of muscle strength which can be achieved depends on gender, age, and inherited physical attributes.
Muscular endurance is how many times you can move that weight without getting exhausted (very tired).
Muscular endurance is the ability of a muscle or group of muscles to perform repetitive contractions against a force for an extended period of time. The greater your muscular endurance the higher number of repetitions you could complete.
WHY MUSCULAR STRENGTH AND ENDURANCE IMPORTANT?
Strength and endurance are important to enable children to perform every day functions such as fine motor skills.
Muscular endurance helps maintain proper posture all day long.
Improving strength and endurance contributes to a higher metabolism, which increases caloric use both while at work and rest, which in turn reduces the risk of obesity.
WHAT ACTIVITIES CAN HELP IMPROVE STRENGTH AND ENDURANCE?
Bench Step-ups
Burpees
Calf raises
Cartwheels
Crab walks

MUSCLE OF THE WEEK
REPORTER: APRILYN MERCADER
Muscular strength is the amount of force you can put out or the amount of weight you can lift. Muscular Endurance is how many times you can move that weight without getting exhausted (very tired)
If you’re aiming to boost your upper-body strength don’t neglect your arms! Strengthening the arm muscle can go a long way when it comes to making it easier to tote around luggaga, throw a foot ball or swing a tennis racket as well as promoting long-term bone health.
Which musckes make up the Arms?
The anterior
The posterior
The shoulder
Each of the muscles plays it’s own unique and important role to help our arms move in all the various ways we use them throughout the day
Any pushing, pulling, reaching or swigging movement of the arm requires a different set of muscles and training those muscle can help you do everything from carrying a bag of groceries and picking up your dog to holding a plank pose in yoga and opening a heavy door.
Example exercise that best for strengthening the Arms for kids
Lifting a small bottle above the head
In this shoulder strengthening exercise the child lifts and lower a plastics water or marbles
Lifting a big bottle above the head
the purpose of this exercise is to straighten the trunk, neck and shoulders muscles
Flower stick game
Learning to juggle with flower stick is good for strengthening the arm as well as training attention and coordination
Hands and knees-lift arm and leg
The child stands on the hands and knees and lifts one or more limbs level with the back while keeping the back flat. Keeping the back flat requires activation of the abdominal muscle to stabilize the position of the pelvis
Push ups on hands and knees
By the age of 6-7 years old, a child should be able to bend the elbows and lower the head to the floor when standing on hands and knees 5 times with good control.
Developing Leg Strength and Endurance
Strengthening your leg muscles during workouts can bring big benefits when you’re out on the hiking trail, for example while swimming. Your leg starts at your hip joint and runs down to your unckle joints, encompassing the thigh, knee, and calf. The muscles in your leg help you do everything from extending and rotating your leg in every direction, bending your knee, pointing your toes, and more.
When it comes to children and excercise you’ll want to stick with bodyweight tasks-those that don’t use excess weight. Bodyweight exercise for kids are ideal, as they will not excessively strain your child’s young muscles and will help instill good exercise habits.
Few exercises that are appropriate for kids
Jumping Jacks
It’s one exercise that works all the leg and hip muscles well. It also acts as a great cardio worthout while paying attention to the upper body too.
Jumps
Another fun one that kids will enjoy but will also build power in the meantime. Perfect for gaining more force and strengthening hamstrings, calves and ankles. You can do these from solid ground or with boxes/benches coming from a squat, you’ll have your kids jumps. You can also incorporate a jump rope for even more fun and challenge.
Side shuffles
Fantastic for aspiring athletes not only will help children become faster, more agile and better endurance on the field or court.
Basic squat
A classic body weight exercise that will work out a variety of leg muscle. From the quads to the harmstrings, to the calves, this easy activity is the perfect starting points for a child-friendly workouts.
Muscle of the week
Developing Abdominal strength and Endurance
Abdominal endurance plays a large role in the good posture and fitness performance. It’s the ability of your abs to sustain a workload for long periods of time
If you have good posture, but poor abdominal endurance, you may experience back pain and other undersirable muscle imbalances. Abdominal endurance also means you can last longer on the truck or field, and even go faster, because you have a solid foundation from which your limbs move.
And because we are teaching an elementary school. We will talk about the core strength for kids, were not referring to what you commonly see about adults working their abs to gets a six-pack. Instead, were interested in building a strong core foundation so kids can be functional and successful with all of the tasks they need to do thoughout the day.
The core muscles are the muscles in the abdomen, hips, glutes back and pelvis and the key to strengthening these muscles is it fun-like a game!
Few Core exercises that best for kids
Bridging
Have your child get into the starting position by lying on their back with their knees bent and feet flat on the floor. Have them push hard throuh their heels to raise their bottom up off the floor. Be sure that they are keeping their head and shoulders on the ground and their spine in a straight line.
Superman
Have your little one fly like the superhero and strengthen their back! Have them line on their stomach on the floor so that their upper chest comes up too.
Knock me over
This has always been a favorite of the kids. I see for physical therapy. It can be done with smaller children on your laps or with bigger kiddos on a large therapy ball or even with them kneeling on both knees.
Plank
This one is an obvious (and overall) core strengthening. Have your child lay on his stomach on the floor with his hands flat on the floor at shoulder level and toes on the floor. On the count of 3, have them push up on their hands to straighten thier arms and lift thier whole body off of the floor into a raised push-up position (above) with their feet, hip wide apart (or wider)

APPROPRIATE AND INAPPROPRIATE STRETCHES FOR CHILDREN
REPORTER: ELINA MAE CATUNHAY
Promoting Flexibility through Stretching
A flexibility is a movement or position designed to stretch specific muscles, with the goal of increasing flexibility and range of motion in that specific area.
A flexibility can be any kind of stretch, as long as it increases your range of motion and lengthens your muscles and joints.
3 types of flexibility
Static stretching
Dynamic stretching
Ballistic stretching
Static stretching refers to an individual’s absolute range of motion that can be achieved without movement.
Dynamic stretches are movements performed at a slower pace than most workouts. People tend to do dynamic stretches to warm up their muscles and prepare for exercise.
Ballistic stretching is a form of stretching that uses body momentum from bouncing to force the bodies joints to move with a larger ROM than normal.
Benefits of Stretching
• Agility
• Improved joint health and range of motion
• Increased blood flow to the muscles
• Maintenance of flexibility into adulthood
• Prevents injuries
• Recovery after exercise
• Reduced muscle tension
• Stretching feels good
Appropriate and Inappropriate stretches for children:
Simple appropriate Stretching Exercises For Children
CHILD POSE: This posture helps the child to do a full stretch. It can reduce stress and help the kid relax.
BOW POSE: One of the significant benefits of bow posture stretching is to improve spine flexibility. Practicing this exercise regularly would help in reducing strain in the neck, back, and also release muscle tension.
COBRA POSE: Cobra pose helps in relieving backache, improving hunger, and reducing abdominal fat. It can also help in strengthening the stomach and spine
Inappropriate stretches
• Stretching when you are injured
• Doing it even if it is painful
• Having poor posture or form
• Holding your breath when holding a stretch
• Not doing warm-up exercises beforehand
• Bouncing’ when stretching
• Not doing it consistently
• Doing the wrong type of stretching
• Stretching too fast
• Overstretching

GAMES AND OTHER ACTIVITIES THAT PROMOTE FLEXIBILITY
Activities and games to build and boost cognitive flexibility.
TYPES OF ACTIVITY THAT PROMOTE FLEXIBILITY:
Rubik’s Cube is a widely popular mechanical puzzle that has attracted attention around the world because of its unique characteristics.
One benefit that block play fosters is cognitive flexibility which is essential for success in school, in relationships and the workplace. Playing with blocks strengthens our ability to quickly shift focus from one thing to another.
When you dance, you will constantly perform movements that will test your body’s range of motion, and it is through this repetition of difficult moves where you will increase your range of motion.
PROMPT CHILDREN TO BE ACTIVE OUT OF SCHOOL AND AT RECESS
Many pediatricians, educators, parents, and other experts are worried about the lack of physical activity kids get at school. Increasingly, students are not offered enough opportunities for movement and exercise in their school day.
In addition to kids choosing screen time over outdoor play and sports, schools and homework also increasingly put children in front of computers, even when they are attending class in person. This cuts into the time kids have to be physically active. In fact, concerning statistics show that students are far too sedentary at school and at home—a trend that’s contributing to serious health concerns
Recess is a regularly scheduled period in the school day for physical activity and play that is monitored by trained staff or volunteers. During recess, students are encouraged to be physically active and engaged with their peers in activities of their choice, at all grade levels, kindergarten through 12th grade.
Recess benefits students by:
Increasing their level of physical activity.
Improving their memory, attention, and concentration.
Helping them stay on-task in the classroom.
Reducing disruptive behavior in the classroom.
Improving their social and emotional development

INTERDISCIPLINARY STRATEGIES
WHAT IS INTERDISCIPLINARY STRATEGIES TEACHING AND LEARNING?
-Interdisciplinary teaching and learning is exactly what it sounds like: students combine learning from multiple disciplines to come up with new ways to think about issues and solve problems.
-Interdisciplinary instruction entails the use and integration of methods and analytical frameworks from more than one academic discipline to examine a theme, issue, question or topic. Interdisciplinary education makes use of disciplinary approaches to examine topics, but pushes beyond by: taking insights from a variety of relevant disciplines, synthesizing their contribution to understanding, and then integrating these ideas into a more complete, and hopefully coherent, framework of analysis.
LINKING PHYSICAL EDUCATION CONTENT TO OTHER SUBJECTS
Physical education can be integrated with other subjects with certain concepts that overlap, like math and science. Learn how physical education teachers can incorporate the graphing of speeds and other activities into the curriculum.
Kids and Physical Education
For many students, physical education class is the highlight of their day. It is where they can take a break from sitting in a classroom and use their bodies. It allows them to move around, learn to play different kinds of sports, dance, and just be a part of a team all working toward the same goal. Physical education is a unique time in the school day to connect with students in ways that regular classroom teaching cannot.
LINKING PHYSICAL EDUCATION CONTENT TO MATH LESSONS
Mathematics and Physical Education can be two subjects that children do not immediately associate as having common ground and yet there are some clear fundamental links that underpin these two areas of learning. When presented alongside each other, the uniqueness of both subjects can be very powerful in offering children a holistic learning experience that can also aid understanding in both areas. The dialogue above between two children highlights some common misunderstandings and misdirection about the benefits of these subjects and what influence they can have on a child’s overall educational experience. No mathematics educator would claim that math’s is just about adding and taking away. Similarly, no physical educator would claim that physical education is merely about throwing beanbags. Both subjects can provide children with a wealth of challenge, engagement and fulfilment whilst also not forgetting the more serious nature of what both disciplines set out to achieve; core fundamental skills that every child will need throughout their life.
How Is Math Used In Exercise?
Math is used in almost every area of our lives, whether it’s basic addition and subtraction or more advanced formulas and calculations. When playing a sport, you use math to keep track of the score and figure out the points needed to win the game. You can even use math to tell the time or calculate the amount of time left in a game, an inning, or a quarter.
Math Formulas in Relation to Fitness
Athletes apply math to calculate their heart rate, beats per minute, and time. Your resting heart rate (RHR) is your heart rate when you get up in the morning. Put your index and middle finger on your wrist or the carotid artery in your neck to determine your RHR. Now multiply that amount by six to get the number of beats in 10 seconds. This rate might range anywhere from 40 to 100 beats per minute. Men have an average heart rate of 70 beats per minute, while women have an average heart rate of 75 beats per minute.
HRmax (Maximum Heart Rate) is the maximum heart rate a person can obtain when exercising. It is calculated as HRmax =220– (your) age.
Numbers and formulas can help us calculate your BMI (Body Mass Index). BMI tells us if we are overweight. You can calculate your BMI from your height and weight measurements.
You also need math to convert weight into kilograms and height into meters.
standard formula for BMI is: Weight (kg)÷Height(m)
LINKING PHYSICAL EDUCATION CONTENT TO LANGUAGE ARTS
When incorporating language arts concepts into your physical education lessons, focus on the following areas: Writing, Listening, Viewing, Speaking, and Reading. Topics such as spelling, vocabulary, comprehension, question and answers, and critical listening can easily be incorporated into a Physical Education lesson. Below are a sample of several lessons that can be incorporated at different grade levels.
Scrabble Laps (gr 3-5): The purpose of this activity is to incorporate physical fitness with spelling of core vocabulary words. Helpful hint: Ask the classroom teacher for a list of vocabulary/spelling words of the week.
Scootin’, Sounds, and Sorting (gr K-2): The purpose of this activity is to have students incorporate physical fitness and locomotor movements with practice of beginning sounds of words, and the letters of the alphabet.
LINKING PHYSICAL EDUCATION CONTENT TO THE STUDY OF SCIENCE
Science education is a much – discussed topic of reform in k – 12 education. In seen as a vehicle for developing skills such as problem solving and critical thinking, and scientific literacy is considered a basic requirement for survival in an era dominated by science and technology. Meanwhile, physical education is receiving widespread attention in schools as society is becoming increasingly health conscious. Regular exercise is important to the maintenance and improvement of health. The benefits of physical fitness include maintaining healthy weight, having energy and strength for routine activities, good music tone, bone strength for routine activities, strong heart/lung systems, and improved mental health.
