The first person narrator in each of the assigned Poe short stories – “The Tell-Tale Heart”, “The Fall of the House of Usher”, and “The Cask of the Amontillado” – is characterized by intense emotion. Identify one ormore emotions and analyze the techniques by which Poe creates each narrator’s unique experience and how we as readers are allowed entry into the narrator’s mind or psychological terrain. These techniques could include the following: 1) the choice of the first person narrator versus a third person point of view and 2) settings – places both inside and outside, times of day or night, seasons, time that elapses.
