Determine what strategies you will use to reach those goals as you rebuild The Fullerton Cafe for the 21st century.

(A) Description
Scenario:
You recently inherited your grandparent’s coffee shop, The Fullerton Cafe, conveniently located in downtown Fullerton. The cafe offers a variety of coffee and tea, a full-service bakery, sandwiches, soups, and salads. Although The Fullerton Cafe was a local hotspot for many years, the business has been steadily declining over the last five years. You have decided to define a new business strategy for The Fullerton Cafe and introduce Information Technology (IT) to enable the strategy and enhance operations. Example of IT improvements may include creating an e-business (including The Fullerton Cafe website) to do online order fulfillment, inventory updating, promotion and offers, and offering Wi-Fi in the cafe.

The goal is for you to learn how to apply the concepts of the strategic planning process and IT project management that you have learned in class to a realistic situation at The Fullerton Café. This assignment will be carried out in teams (the same teams you had for your project). First, your team will create a new business strategy and design the IT enablers to create value for the new business strategy. Each team will produce a report discussing the business strategy and IT opportunities that The Fullerton Cafe will implement when engaging in its improvement plans. In addition, each team will use project management knowledge areas, such as scope management, cost management, time management, change management, and so on, to manage the IT project.
Remember, as the analyst and strategist in this scenario; you are responsible for deciding on the appropriate IT solution(s) for Fullerton Café. As long as you can justify your strategy and choice of information solution(s) based on the results of your analysis, you will be awarded the points for this portion. Creativity, initiative, completeness, teamwork, and diligence are essential!
(B) Analysis
Introduction and Business Strategy
The Fullerton Café is a small player as a single coffee shop in a competitive market of coffee chain franchises. Your first task as a team is to determine the future business strategy for the Fullerton Café.

Background:
To survive and thrive, an organization must create a competitive advantage. A competitive advantage is a product or service that the organization’s customers place a greater value on than similar offerings from a competitor. Organizations should develop a proper strategy using an effective strategic planning process to create a competitive advantage. You may want to employ a goals-based strategic planning approach.
As organizations develop their strategy, they need to analyze their current situation and environment. As such, they must pay close attention to their competition through environmental scanning and internal assessment. Therefore, Fullerton Café should deploy a SWOT matrix analysis.
After your analysis, determine what competitive business strategies you will implement at The Fullerton Café. Several tasks you may perform, and the document would be:
1. Perform a detailed Porter’s Five Forces analysis for The Fullerton Café.
2. Conduct internal assessment and prepare a SWOT
3. Determine what your objectives and goals are.
4. Determine what strategies you will use to reach those goals as you rebuild The Fullerton Cafe for the 21st century.
(C) Strategy: e-Business
E-Business opportunity which complements your business strategy
As you have learned in ISDS 351, IT investment alone does not make a strategy. Instead, IT investments can enable and create value for your Business Strategy, a value that could not be accomplished without IT or would be prohibitively expensive without IT. Once you determine your business strategy, you need to develop an integrated IT e-business plan.
Use the following section to guide the development of your integrated IT plan for your chosen business strategy.
The Fullerton Café is interested in introducing e-business to address some of its issues and support its business strategy.
Background:
One of the most significant benefits of the Internet is its ability to allow organizations to perform business with anyone, anywhere, anytime. E-business is conducting business on the Internet, not only buying and selling but also serving customers and collaborating with business partners. In the past few years, e-business seems to have permeated every aspect of daily life. Both individuals and organizations have embraced Internet technologies to enhance productivity, maximize convenience, and improve communications globally. From banking to shopping to entertainment, the Internet has become integral to daily life.
Fullerton Cafe needs to take advantage of e-business strategies to remain competitive. Discuss the many e-business strategies that Fullerton Cafe could use to increase revenue. You can focus on different business areas, such as marketing, finance, accounting, sales, customer service, and human resources. Write a compelling argument about how the IT enablement strategy is consistent with your outlined business strategy.
Document the various e-business strategies Fullerton Café could use to support the business strategy. A few questions you might want to address in your documentation for your team report are:
1. What type of e-business (such as B2C, B2B) would you deploy at The Fullerton Café?
2. How can an e-business project support your business strategy?
3. What types of hardware and software do you need to build your e-business website?
4. What is the scope of the e-business project? What is the cost of the project? How much time do you need to implement it?
(D) Plan: IT Project Management
Implementation of the e-business Project
After analyzing and deciding how you will utilize the IT opportunities in the section above, apply your acquired project management knowledge to implement this IT project. You are required to use Microsoft Project to assist you in managing this project. You are also encouraged to use other online collaboration tools like Dropbox/Google Docs for your collaboration purposes.
Your team should plan your project based on the System Development Life Cycle. Also, explain how the IT project works as an IT-enabling approach for The Fullerton Café’s new business strategy.
(E) Deliverables:
Team Report and Project Management Docs
Each team should submit a minimum 8-page Team Report (not including the cover page, the plan and the appendix) and Microsoft Project files (.mpp and .pdf).
The report will be graded primarily on the information content; however, misspelled words, mistakes in grammar, etc., detract from the intended message and result in a lower score.
Copying material directly from online or print sources is plagiarism and is unacceptable.
Formatting: Times New Roman 12-point, double line-spacing, 1-inch margins.
