You are a police officer on patrol in Lindseyville, Ca. Lindseyville is a metropolitan police agency in the greater Sacramento Valley. It has a population of about 55,000 people. During your shift, you stop a vehicle for a traffic violation. There is an adult and an unrelated juvenile in the vehicle. Through your investigation, you discover a small amount of drugs in the vehicle. You tow the vehicle. Hint: Do not use ” an odor of marijuana” for justifying your search. During your interview of the passengers, one of them reveals the source of the drugs. You go there and find there are 5 people in the house. One is on probation, one is on parole, and the other three live there. Eventually, you discover 5 kilos of [drugs used in the paper], a firearm and [other evidence of your choice] in the house and a drug lab next door. In your paper, take the reader from the moment of the stop to the conviction, acquittal or incarceration of the participants. Remember, you must demonstrate your understanding of the court system. Consider the following questions:Who gets arrested? How do you safeguard your evidence, including statements so they can be used in court? What laws give you the authority to search, obtain statements and enter a person’s residence? As a minimum, use at least three appropriate cases to substantiate your actions. For example, Mapp V Ohio (367 US 643, 1961) could be cited in order to explain the exclusion of illegally obtained evidence. There is no minimum length for this paper. However, covering all of the required elements of the assignment can be up to 10 pages. This paper will require a little imagination. For example, in the traffic stop, what if the juvenile talks to you but the adult requests an attorney? What if two occupants of the house are married?
